Where it came from
Seer's Sundial was originally released in the 2010 Worldwake expansion for Magic: The Gathering. Designed as an artifact that rewards players for playing lands, it fits into the tactical, resource-management style of gameplay common in Commander format, where generating card advantage is highly prioritized. The piece was later reprinted in the 2017 Commander Anthology, a curated box set designed to provide players with access to popular legendary creatures and utility artifacts.
The card’s visual design reflects the mystical, celestial aesthetic of the Zendikar plane, emphasizing the themes of exploration and divination. The illustration by Christopher Rush captures a functional yet ornate clockwork device, aligning with the game's tradition of blending high fantasy with mechanical utility. As a common-rarity artifact in its original printing, it was well-received by players seeking budget-friendly methods to draw cards in decks that frequently play multiple lands per turn.
