Seismic Assault

Seismic Assault was originally introduced in the Exodus expansion of 1998, but the Seventh Edition printing, released in 2001, marked a significant moment in the game's history. As the first core set to feature card frames with white borders, Seventh Edition was designed to provide a foundational collection that brought older, popular cards back into the standard tournament rotation. The artwork for this specific printing was carried over from the original Exodus design by illustrator Greg Staples, who utilized a dark, visceral aesthetic to capture the chaotic nature of the card's ability to turn land cards into direct damage.

The card quickly became a staple in combo-oriented decks due to its unique mechanical interaction with cards that return lands to their owner's hand. Its design reflects the late-nineties philosophy of high-impact enchantments that reward players for hoarding specific resources.
