Selective Memory

Selective Memory was released in February 2010 as part of the Worldwake expansion for Magic: The Gathering. As a blue sorcery card, it was designed to interact with the game's library manipulation mechanics, allowing players to exile any number of cards from their library to thin their deck of unwanted spells. This set was notable for introducing the landfall mechanic to a broader pool of cards and explored the aftermath of the Eldrazi's arrival on the plane of Zendikar, framing the card's theme of memory manipulation within the high-stakes conflict of the setting.

The card's illustration was created by artist Jaime Jones, who sought to capture the ethereal and disorienting nature of losing one's past. Jones utilized a surreal, washed-out color palette to reflect the literal loss of magical knowledge represented by the card's effect.
