Where it came from
Sensei's Divining Top was originally released in the 2004 set Champions of Kamigawa, designed as an artifact that allows players to manipulate the top of their library. The card became a cornerstone of competitive Magic: The Gathering for its efficiency in smoothing out draws and its complex interactions with game rules. Its ability to be activated repeatedly made it a staple in formats like Legacy, where it enabled long-term strategic planning while challenging players to manage their time effectively during matches.
This specific iteration, numbered 10 in the 2009 From the Vault: Exiled collection, features the original artwork by Rayph Haun. The From the Vault series was created by Wizards of the Coast to curate powerful or historically significant cards, often featuring unique foil treatments or updated borders. This version is prized by collectors for its distinct aesthetic finish and its inclusion in a set designed to highlight cards that had been previously banned or restricted throughout the game's competitive history.
