Where it came from
Sensei's Divining Top was originally introduced in the 2004 Champions of Kamigawa set. Designed by Brian Tinsman, the card was intended to capture the flavor of the Kamigawa plane's spiritual and meditative themes through a low-cost, repeatable library manipulation mechanic. It quickly became a staple in eternal formats for its unique ability to smooth out draws and set up combos, eventually becoming so ubiquitous that it was banned in the Modern format to reduce tournament match times.
The 2022 Double Masters version, featuring artwork by Titus Lunter, arrived as part of a premium set designed to reprint high-demand, high-power cards. Lunter's illustration updates the classic aesthetic, maintaining the card's iconic top-spinning imagery while utilizing the updated, high-fidelity art style common to modern supplemental sets. This version is prized by collectors and players alike for its clean frame design and the nostalgic yet polished appeal of its artwork within the context of the highly curated Double Masters collection.
