Where it came from
Senu, Keen-Eyed Protector was released in 2024 as part of the Magic: The Gathering 'Universes Beyond' collaboration with the Assassin's Creed franchise. This card represents Senu, the faithful eagle companion to Bayek of Siwa, the protagonist of the 2017 video game Assassin's Creed Origins. The card was designed to mechanically reflect the character's role in the game as a scout, providing players with card-draw advantages and board visibility, aligning with the eagle's perspective-shifting abilities in the digital source material.
The card art was produced by artist Manuel Castañón, who aimed to capture the bond between the avian protector and its environment in Ancient Egypt. Within the context of the set, the card was received as a functional tool for decks focused on historical figures and stealth mechanics. It stands as an example of how Wizards of the Coast integrates legacy gaming iconography into their existing trading card game framework, emphasizing thematic consistency for fans of both properties.
