Provenance

Where it came from

The Serendib Efreet was originally released in the 1994 Arabian Nights expansion, the first expansion set for Magic: The Gathering. Designed by Richard Garfield, the set drew heavily from Middle Eastern mythology and folklore. The card became infamous during its original run due to a printing error where the card was misidentified as a green creature with blue artwork, a mistake that remains a notable piece of trading card history.

The version from the Eternal Masters set, released in 2016, features updated artwork by Volkan Baga. This set was curated specifically to provide players with access to powerful, iconic cards from the game's history in a tournament-legal format. Baga’s illustration modernized the classic Efreet aesthetic, focusing on a more ethereal and imposing presentation that honored the legacy of the original Anson Maddocks art while aligning with the high-definition art style of the modern era.
