Shadrix Silverquill // Shadrix Silverquill

Shadrix Silverquill was released as part of the Strixhaven: School of Mages Art Series in 2021. The set was designed to showcase the intricate, full-bleed artwork commissioned for the Strixhaven expansion, presenting these illustrations on high-quality, frame-less cards that serve as collectible prints rather than functional game pieces. The piece was created to highlight the aesthetic identity of the Silverquill college, which focuses on the intersection of eloquence, debate, and aggressive magic.

The artwork was illustrated by Jason Rainville, who sought to capture the imposing, dualistic nature of the Elder Dragon Shadrix. By utilizing a stark contrast between ink-dark shadows and ethereal, glowing light, the design emphasizes the college's thematic reliance on shadows and written word. The art series became popular among collectors for providing a closer look at the technical skill involved in modern fantasy card illustration, effectively bridging the gap between gameplay assets and traditional fine art.
