Shared Fate

Shared Fate was released in 2003 as part of the Mirrodin expansion, a pivotal set that introduced players to an artificial plane made entirely of metal. The card functions as a rare enchantment that alters the fundamental rules of gameplay, requiring players to draw from their opponent's library instead of their own. It emerged during a design era where Wizards of the Coast was experimenting with complex, game-warping mechanical effects intended to reward creative deck-building and interaction.

The artwork was commissioned from Matt Cavotta, a long-time illustrator for the game whose style often leaned into the eerie and surreal.
