Where it came from
Shatter the Sky was introduced as a rare white sorcery in the 2020 Magic: The Gathering set Theros Beyond Death. Mechanically, the card serves as a board wipe that grants card advantage to opponents, a design choice intended to balance the board-clearing effect with a drawback tied to the set's Greek mythology-inspired theme of hubris and divine intervention.
The promotional version, designated as collector number 37p, features distinctive alternate art by artist Igor Kieryluk. This specific variant was distributed through Wizards of the Coast's various organized play initiatives, such as Friday Night Magic, offering collectors a stylized aesthetic that departs from the standard set art to emphasize the dramatic, explosive nature of the spell.
