Where it came from
The Shiko, Paragon of the Way card is part of the Tarkir: Dragonstorm Art Series, a collection released by Wizards of the Coast to showcase the intricate, flavor-rich illustrations featured in the Magic: The Gathering card set. These cards serve as collectible art pieces rather than game-playable components, emphasizing the visual storytelling of the Tarkir plane—a world defined by its draconic influence and shifting timelines.
The artwork for this specific piece was created as part of the broader artistic initiative for the Dragonstorm release, intended to highlight the evolution of the setting's aesthetic. Illustrators working on this series focused on maintaining the established high-fantasy visual identity of the Magic multiverse while celebrating the individual character designs that distinguish the Tarkir set, resulting in a series that is highly regarded by collectors for its aesthetic cohesion and focus on the draft and sketch process behind professional fantasy illustration.
