Shivan Oasis

Shivan Oasis was introduced to the Magic: The Gathering card pool in the Invasion expansion, though this specific iteration belongs to the Eighth Edition core set released in 2003. As a dual land that provides a choice of red or green mana, it was designed to support two-color archetypes by offering flexibility at the cost of entering the battlefield tapped. This cycle of 'depletion lands' or 'tapped duals' was a staple in the design philosophy of the era, aiming to balance color fixing with tempo constraints for limited and casual play environments.

The artwork for this particular version was illustrated by Alan Pollack, who contributed extensively to the visual identity of Magic during the early 2000s. Pollack utilized his signature painterly style to capture the dramatic, arid landscape of Shiv, a volcanic region central to the game's lore. The card design was intended to provide accessible mana utility for players who did not have access to rare, high-value land cards, serving as a functional utility piece rather than a centerpiece of competitive tournament strategy.
