Shrouded Lore

Shrouded Lore was originally released in the 2004 expansion set Darksteel for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. Designed by Wizards of the Coast, the card was intended to provide black-aligned players with a recursive utility effect, allowing for the retrieval of cards from a graveyard at a specific mana cost. The artwork, illustrated by the artist Dave Dorman, leans into the game's gothic fantasy aesthetic, depicting a shadowy, ethereal figure that captures the card's function of pulling forgotten knowledge from the void.

The card was included in 'The List,' a curated collection of legacy cards that Wizards of the Coast began inserting into Set Boosters in 2020. This initiative was designed to provide players with an opportunity to pull iconic or mechanically interesting cards from across the game's long history. The inclusion of Shrouded Lore in this set revitalized its visibility for a new generation of players, maintaining its status as a niche but flavorful piece of black-color identity within the game's expansive mechanical ecosystem.
