Where it came from
Sidar Jabari of Zhalfir was released in 2023 as part of the March of the Machine Commander set for Magic: The Gathering. The card depicts a legendary figure from the nation of Zhalfir, a land historically phased out of existence during the Phyrexian Invasion of Dominaria. This card serves as a narrative milestone, representing the return of Zhalfir and its heroes to the main plane of existence as part of the Multiverse-wide conflict against the Phyrexians.
The character design was illustrated by Wisnu Tan, who aimed to portray Sidar Jabari as a commanding, stoic leader of the Zhalfirian cavalry. The artwork emphasizes his regal yet martial presence, utilizing the bright, hopeful color palette associated with Zhalfir’s return. Upon its release, the card was well-received by players for its synergy with tribal mechanics involving Knights and its ability to provide card advantage, solidifying its place as a popular commander for players interested in combat-focused strategies.
