Provenance

Where it came from

Sinkhole was originally released in the 1993 Alpha set as a powerful land-destruction spell, quickly becoming a staple of early competitive Magic: The Gathering play due to its efficiency and disruptive potential. The 30th Anniversary Edition, released in 2022, serves as a non-tournament legal tribute to these early years, recreating the original aesthetic and card frame of the game's inception to celebrate three decades of history.

The art for Sinkhole, originally illustrated by Sandra Everingham, features a dramatic and stark representation of a collapsing landscape that perfectly encapsulates the card's function. The 30th Anniversary Edition maintains this iconic visual identity while utilizing modern printing technology on a distinct card back, catering to those who appreciate the historical significance of the game's foundational library and the evolution of its iconic art style.
