Where it came from
The Sister of Silence card was released in 2022 as part of the Warhammer 40,000 Commander set for Magic: The Gathering. This set was the result of a collaboration between Wizards of the Coast and Games Workshop, designed to integrate the grimdark lore of the Warhammer 40,000 universe into the mechanical framework of Magic's Commander format. The card depicts a member of the Anathema Psykana, an ancient order of warriors who are biologically null-beings, possessing the unique ability to dampen psychic energy.
The art was commissioned to capture the austere, imposing aesthetic of the Imperium of Man’s silent hunters. By emphasizing their role as psychic blanks, the design reinforces their tactical utility within the tabletop game as a disruptive force against supernatural powers. Upon release, the card was received as a flavorful and mechanically thematic inclusion for players focusing on the Imperium's specialized anti-psyker military units, serving as both a functional tool in gameplay and a stylistic nod to the established Warhammer 40,000 canon.
