Where it came from
Skewer the Critics was originally printed as a common card in the 2019 Magic: The Gathering set Ravnica Allegiance. This specific iteration, collector number 2056, was released as part of a Secret Lair drop, a series of curated, limited-edition sets known for their distinct artistic reimbursements of classic game mechanics.
The artwork for this particular version was created by the artist Magali Villeneuve. Her design leans into a dark, stylized aesthetic that highlights the volatile nature of the card's effect, which allows players to deal damage more efficiently after a previous strike. The card was well-received by the player base for its blend of high-utility gameplay and elevated, unique visual storytelling.
