Provenance

Where it came from

The Skyhunter Skirmisher was released in 2004 as part of the Fifth Dawn expansion, the final set in the Mirrodin block for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. Developed by Wizards of the Coast, this set focused on the integration of artifacts into a world dominated by metallic constructs. The card was designed to highlight the Leonin, a cat-like race native to the plane of Mirrodin, emphasizing their agility and aerial combat capabilities through the implementation of the flying and double strike keywords.

The artwork was created by illustrator Matt Cavotta, who frequently contributed to the visual identity of the Mirrodin block. Cavotta depicted the Leonin warrior mid-flight with a stylistic emphasis on the character's armor and feline features. At the time of its release, the card was noted for its tactical efficiency within Limited formats, as the combination of abilities allowed it to exert significant pressure on an opponent's life total early in a game.
