Provenance

Where it came from

Skyshroud Elite was first released in the 1998 Magic: The Gathering expansion Exodus, the final set in the Rath Cycle. Designed by the team at Wizards of the Coast, the card reflects the aesthetic of the Rath plane, which was depicted as a world being artificially overlapped with the setting of Dominaria. Its mechanics and art aimed to convey the flavor of the Skyshroud forest, a region populated by elves and beasts resisting the influence of the villainous Phyrexians.

The version from 'The List' is a reprinting initiative started by Wizards of the Gathering in 2020 to insert past cards into modern booster packs. These cards are curated selections from throughout the game's history, meant to provide players with access to older or niche cards that have been out of print for decades. While the card retains its original 1998 artwork and flavor text, its inclusion in The List serves as a nod to the game's longevity and the enduring popularity of classic creature types like the Elf Warrior.
