Provenance

Where it came from

The Skyshroud Falcon first appeared in the Tempest expansion in 1997, representing the aerial forces of the Skyshroud Forest on the plane of Rath. This white creature card was designed to highlight the flavor of the forest's defenders, utilizing the flying ability to provide an early-game evasive threat. Its inclusion in the Seventh Edition core set, released in 2001, marked a transition for the game as it introduced a new card frame design and aimed to standardize the experience for newer players by pulling established creatures from throughout Magic's history.

The artwork for this version was illustrated by Christopher Rush, one of the most prolific and iconic artists in the early history of the game. Rush sought to capture the avian majesty of the falcon within the dense, dark aesthetics of the Rathian woodland. Upon its release, the card was received as a functional, low-cost utility creature, favored in limited formats for its efficiency and consistent performance in aggressive deck archetypes.
