Where it came from
The Sledge-Class Seedship, designated as card number 346 in the Edge of Eternities set, was released as part of a science-fiction expansion focused on themes of post-humanity and deep-space colonization. The set was designed to explore the logistical and existential challenges of humanity attempting to preserve its biological legacy across the stars, with the Sledge-Class representing the utilitarian, brutalist aesthetic common to the set's faction-specific technology.
The art for this card was commissioned to evoke a sense of imposing scale, utilizing a muted palette to emphasize the ship's function as a cold, automated vessel. Upon its release, players and collectors noted the card for its distinct contrast against the more ornate, decorative cards of the same series. It remains a notable example of how the set's illustrators utilized industrial design cues to establish a grounded, hard science-fiction tone for the overall world-building.
