Smoke Shroud

Smoke Shroud was introduced as part of the Foundations Jumpstart expansion for Magic: The Gathering, released in late 2024. As a card within the Jumpstart format, it was designed specifically to facilitate a fast-paced, pick-up-and-play experience that allows players to combine two pre-constructed packs into a functional deck. This card serves as a thematic component for the Ninja-themed Jumpstart packet, reflecting the set's intent to provide accessible, beginner-friendly gameplay while incorporating mechanics relevant to the Ninjutsu playstyle.

The card's design focuses on utility and synergy, allowing it to return to the battlefield from the graveyard to bolster attacking creatures. In terms of artistic direction, the illustration leans into the shadowy, ethereal aesthetic common to black-aligned cards in the set, emphasizing the stealthy nature of the Ninja archetype. By providing a recurring buff, the card was intended to reward aggressive, graveyard-focused play, fitting comfortably into the established design philosophies of modern Magic sets that seek to balance simple entry points for new players with strategic depth for veterans.
