Smoldering Marsh

Smoldering Marsh was originally introduced in the Battle for Zendikar set as part of a cycle of dual lands known as tango lands. These lands feature the land types of their respective colors, allowing them to be searched for by cards that look for specific basic land types, though they enter the battlefield tapped unless the player controls two or more basic lands. The version found in the New Capenna Commander set maintains this functional design while updating the aesthetic to align with the Art Deco-inspired, industrial cityscape of the plane of New Capenna.

The art for this printing was created by artist Igor Kieryluk, who has contributed extensively to the visual identity of Magic: The Gathering. The illustration captures the moody, elemental fusion of fire and earth synonymous with the card's color identity, reflecting the broader artistic shift within the Commander-focused expansions to provide stylized, thematic reprints that fit the high-society aesthetic of the New Capenna setting.
