Provenance

Where it came from

Snap was released as part of the 'Secret Lair: Artist Series: Seb McKinnon' drop in 2021. This specialized product line is designed to feature curated artwork from prominent illustrators within the Magic: The Gathering community, offering a premium, limited-availability format for iconic or mechanically significant cards. The drop served as a showcase for McKinnon's distinct, surreal, and often melancholic aesthetic, which has become highly recognizable among players and art enthusiasts alike.

The artwork for this version of Snap leans into the artist's signature haunting style, moving away from traditional fantasy tropes to emphasize a sense of ethereal mystery. By reinterpreting an established card—originally printed in the Urza's Legacy expansion to provide a powerful tempo play—this version elevates the functional game piece into a collectible art object. It was well-received by fans of the artist's atmospheric compositions, cementing its status as a cornerstone of modern MTG artistic curation.
