Soul Immolation

Soul Immolation was originally released as part of the Lorwyn set in 2007, a pivotal expansion that introduced the tribal-themed mechanics defining the plane of Lorwyn. This specific version, numbered 156p, belongs to the Lorwyn Eclipsed Promos, a promotional release distributed through tournament play and organized events to incentivize player participation during the set's cycle. These promos are notable for their alternate art or foil treatments, which serve as highly sought-after collectibles for those interested in the visual history of the game.

The card's design reflects the chaotic and elemental nature of Lorwyn's world, emphasizing the theme of transformation and destruction through fire. The illustration, executed by a contracted artist for Wizards of the Coast, sought to capture the visceral intensity of the spell's effect. Upon its release, the card was received as a functional, if situational, removal tool, though it has since become a nostalgic piece of cardboard history for collectors who focus on the Lorwyn block and the specific aesthetic identity of its promotional offerings.
