Soul Net

Soul Net was released as part of Magic: The Gathering's Limited Edition Alpha set in 1993, the inaugural printing of the trading card game designed by Richard Garfield and published by Wizards of the Coast. As a foundational piece of the game's history, the set was produced in limited quantities, establishing the mechanical and aesthetic standards for the collectible card game genre. The card itself occupies a niche space in the early game's ecosystem, representing the experimental design philosophy prevalent during the hobby's infancy.

The artwork for Soul Net was provided by illustrator Jesper Myrfors, who served as the game's original art director. Myrfors sought to create a visual identity that felt distinct from traditional fantasy tropes, opting for a darker, more surreal aesthetic that leaned into the game's occult and arcane themes. While the card is often cited by collectors for its historical significance within the Alpha set, it remains a modest example of the game's evolving balance and art direction from that foundational era.
