Soul Parry

Soul Parry first appeared in the Mirrodin expansion of Magic: The Gathering in 2003, designed as part of the set's focus on the artifact-heavy plane of Mirrodin. The card features an illustration by Pete Venters, a prolific artist in the game's history whose work often leans into the intricate, mechanical aesthetics defining the Mirrodin aesthetic. It was designed as a white instant card, reflecting the color's thematic reliance on defensive maneuvers and temporary protection against aggressive forces.

The card was included in 'The List', a rotating selection of reprints curated by Wizards of the Coast for Set Boosters. By appearing in this supplemental grouping, Soul Parry was reintroduced to contemporary play environments, allowing players to utilize older mechanics in modern formats. While not considered a high-powered competitive staple, its inclusion in The List highlights the game's commitment to maintaining availability for cards that define the visual and mechanical history of various expansion sets.
