Soulmender

Soulmender was originally released in the 2015 Magic: The Gathering core set, M15. Designed as a common white creature, it features an activated ability that allows players to gain life, reflecting the traditional color pie philosophy of white as the color of healing and protection. Its inclusion in 'The List'—a rotating selection of cards from Magic's history inserted into Set Boosters—highlights its role as a functional, low-cost utility creature often used in limited formats to stabilize a player's life total during early game play.

The card features artwork by the illustrator Igor Kieryluk, whose work often leans into high-fantasy aesthetics with a focus on dramatic lighting and character-driven compositions. In the context of the game, the art depicts a robed figure channeling restorative magic, perfectly aligning with the card's mechanics. While Soulmender is not considered a powerhouse in competitive formats, it remains a recognized example of the foundational design principles that have defined Magic: The Gathering's white card pool for over a decade.
