Spell Snare

Spell Snare was originally introduced to the Magic: The Gathering card game in the 2006 Dissension set, designed to serve as a niche, efficient counter-spell targeting cards with a converted mana cost of exactly two. This specific iteration hails from the promotional Lorwyn Eclipsed release, which celebrated the aesthetic and thematic shift toward the fae-inspired world of Lorwyn. The card art was rendered by Dan Dos Santos, who leaned into the ethereal and mischievous visual language characteristic of the set's shadow-touched creatures.

The design of the card is widely regarded by players for its technical utility, as it remains a staple in competitive formats where low-mana threats define the meta. By specifically limiting its interaction to two-cost spells, the card challenged players to manage resources more strategically rather than relying on broad, all-purpose disruption. Its inclusion in the Lorwyn Eclipsed printings helped solidify its status as a sought-after functional reprint, prized by tournament players for its distinct visual treatment and reliable performance in high-stakes environments.
