Sphinx Ambassador

Sphinx Ambassador was introduced as part of the Magic 2010 core set, released in July 2009. This set marked a significant shift in Magic: The Gathering history, as it was the first core set to include new cards alongside reprints, effectively ending the previous practice of using core sets exclusively for existing card reprints. The introduction of the 'mythic rare' rarity tier, which had debuted earlier in the Shards of Alara block, was solidified here, positioning the Ambassador as one of the most powerful and elusive creatures available to players at the time.

The card was illustrated by Jim Murray, whose work captures the regal yet unsettling nature of the Sphinx. Murray’s design leans into the high-fantasy aesthetic of the creature type, emphasizing its role as a riddle-master capable of stealing from an opponent’s deck.
