Where it came from
Sphinx's Tutelage was originally introduced in the Magic: The Gathering set Magic Origins in 2015. It was designed as an uncommon blue enchantment intended to support mill-themed decks, where the strategy centers on depleting an opponent's library. The card gained a reputation for its repetitive, disruptive nature in limited formats, forcing players to manage their dwindling resources as the enchantment triggered with every spell cast.
The Special Guests version, numbered 75, represents a visual reimagining of the card within the context of curated reprints. These cards feature distinct, high-profile artistic treatments meant to highlight the history of Magic: The Gathering. By stripping the card of its original plane-specific context and applying a refined aesthetic, this release celebrates the card's enduring mechanical role as a cornerstone for control players who favor deck-thinning as a win condition.
