Where it came from
The Splinter, the Mentor card was released as part of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Eternal set, a modern trading card series designed to celebrate the legacy and evolution of the franchise. It was produced to commemorate the core themes of the series, specifically the guidance and discipline provided by Master Splinter to the titular heroes. The set draws heavily on established character archetypes that have remained consistent since the original Mirage Studios comic books.
The design of this specific card features illustrative work that emphasizes the weathered, sage-like aesthetic of the character, aiming to evoke a sense of tradition and quiet authority. By balancing classic comic-inspired linework with contemporary card formatting, the visual presentation was intended to appeal to both long-time fans of the 1980s iterations and newer collectors. Within the hobby, the card is recognized for its role in grounding the wider Eternal set, anchoring the collection with one of the most essential figures in the franchise's mythos.
