Where it came from
Tokka and Rahzar first appeared in the 1991 film Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze. They were created as mutated replacements for Bebop and Rocksteady, designed by Jim Henson's Creature Shop to provide a more formidable and menacing antagonistic presence for the Turtles. Their aesthetic leans into the practical puppetry and suit-acting techniques characteristic of early 90s cinema, emphasizing a feral, hulking appearance that has since become a cult classic staple of the franchise.
The 'Unsupervised' card from the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Eternal set serves as a contemporary retrospective piece, celebrating the enduring popularity of these specific characters. The design language of this set focuses on high-fidelity archival imagery, often emphasizing the contrast between the playful nature of the turtles and the raw, experimental look of Shredder's mutants. Reception among collectors has been driven by nostalgia for the practical effects era of the TMNT films, positioning this card as a tribute to the legacy of the live-action creature designs.
