Where it came from
The Squall, SeeD Mercenary card originates from the Final Fantasy Trading Card Game, a strategic tabletop experience developed by Square Enix in collaboration with Hobby Japan. Released as part of the Opus series, this card honors the protagonist of Final Fantasy VIII, Squall Leonhart, capturing his iconic stoic demeanor and his specialized role as a graduate of the elite SeeD mercenary academy.
The design of the card utilizes official character artwork that emphasizes Squall’s distinctive aesthetic, particularly his gunblade and leather jacket, which were originally conceptualized by Tetsuya Nomura for the 1999 PlayStation release. The card was crafted to appeal to both long-time fans of the series and competitive players, reflecting the game's broader mission to translate the emotional weight of Square Enix's classic titles into a balanced, card-based combat system.
