Where it came from
Zanarkand, Ancient Metropolis // Lasting Fayth (293) is a double-sided foil card from the Final Fantasy Trading Card Game, specifically released within the Opus series. This card was designed to mechanically represent the dual nature of the city of Zanarkand: its vibrant, technologically advanced past as a metropolis and its eventual fate as a collection of pyreflies and fayth. The design reflects the game's focus on narrative-driven mechanics, allowing players to bridge the gap between the two distinct states of the location as depicted in Final Fantasy X.
The artwork and layout were crafted to appeal to fans of the original game, focusing on the melancholic aesthetic of the city's ruin and the spiritual significance of the fayth. It is a staple for collectors interested in the thematic depth of the Opus sets, as it translates a core story element into a utility card. Upon its release, it was well-received by players for its thematic accuracy and its functional role in decks that utilize the Final Fantasy X character pool.
