Provenance

Where it came from

The Staff of Nin was originally introduced in the Magic: The Gathering set Fifth Dawn in 2004, designed as a powerful artifact representing the legendary artifact belonging to the blind seer Nin. The version from Commander 2017, collector number 224, functions as a reprint intended to bolster the artifact-heavy themes popular in the Commander format, providing players with both consistent card draw and a recurring ping effect.

The artwork for this specific printing was illustrated by Dan Scott, who focused on capturing the cold, crystalline, and mystical aesthetic associated with the lore of the Mirrodin plane. The design emphasizes the item's role as a tool of observation and focused energy, and it remains a staple in artifact-focused decks due to its ability to provide utility even after the initial investment.
