Provenance

Where it came from

Stasis Snare was originally introduced in the 2015 Magic: The Gathering expansion Battle for Zendikar. The card was designed as a white-aligned removal spell meant to showcase the flavor of the plane of Zendikar, a world defined by its volatile landscapes and the ongoing struggle against the cosmic entities known as the Eldrazi. Its mechanics reflect the set's focus on interactive, battlefield-oriented spells, allowing players to temporarily exile a creature.

The artwork, illustrated by Igor Kieryluk, depicts an ethereal, glowing trap designed to ensnare creatures using the magical energy native to the Zendikar setting. The piece is characterized by a stark, high-contrast aesthetic that emphasizes the crystalline nature of the trap. Following its initial printing, the card was later included in The List, a curated selection of cards from throughout Magic's history that appear in Set Boosters, effectively reintroducing the card to modern formats for a new generation of players.
