Provenance

Where it came from

Garth One-Eye was originally released in the 1994 Magic: The Gathering expansion set Legends. Designed by Richard Garfield and illustrated by Christopher Rush, the card was famously difficult to balance because it allows players to cast copies of iconic cards from Magic's early history, such as Black Lotus and Shivan Dragon. It represents a character from the lore of the Multiverse, specifically a powerful mage who gained the ability to replicate the spells of others.

The version from 'The List' is a contemporary reprint included within Set Boosters starting in 2021. 'The List' is a curated selection of cards from throughout Magic’s history, designed by Wizards of the Coast to introduce players to older, rare cards by inserting them into modern-day booster packs. This specific printing features the planeswalker symbol in the bottom-left corner to denote its origin as a reprint, maintaining the original mechanics and the classic artwork by Rush.
