Where it came from
Staying Power was originally released as a silver-bordered card in the 2004 Magic: The Gathering set Unhinged. Designed by Mark Rosewater, the card reflects the whimsical and experimental nature of the Un-sets, which prioritize humor and unconventional game mechanics over the strict rules of competitive play. The card's ability, which allows temporary effects to become permanent, serves as a quintessential example of the designers' goal to challenge the boundaries of the game's engine while providing a source of amusement for casual players.
The version included in The List for the Unfinity set release features a premium foil treatment, marking its transition into a broader availability for players and collectors. This inclusion was part of a larger initiative to highlight iconic or unique cards from Magic's history within modern booster packs. The design remains faithful to the original aesthetic, maintaining the playful visual style intended to signal that the card is meant for social, non-sanctioned play environments.
