Where it came from
Stella Lee, Wild Card was released in 2024 as part of the Outlaws of Thunder Junction Commander set for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. The set is themed around a multiverse-spanning Western aesthetic, featuring an ensemble cast of villains gathered for a high-stakes heist. Stella Lee is depicted as a charismatic, magically-inclined sharpshooter who embodies the adventurous, lawless spirit of the plane.
The card was designed to function as a powerful commander, centering on the Izzet color identity and a mechanics-heavy playstyle focused on casting multiple spells in a single turn. Its illustration reflects the stylized, cinematic art direction of the set, emphasizing the character's quick-draw agility and the chaotic, magical energy characteristic of the Thunder Junction environment. The design was received by the player community as a highly efficient engine for storm-style deck archetypes.
