Where it came from
Step Right Up was released in 2022 as part of Unfinity, the fourth installment in Wizards of the Coast's 'Un-' series of Magic: The Gathering sets. These sets are intentionally designed to be humorous and experimental, operating outside of standard competitive rules to explore unconventional mechanics like dice rolling and attraction cards. This specific card was created to function as a core piece for players utilizing the new 'Attractions' deck mechanic, allowing them to draw from their side deck during gameplay.
The card features artwork by illustrator Randy Vargas, who leaned into the retro-futuristic carnival aesthetic that defines the Unfinity set. By blending science fiction themes with traditional circus tropes, the design seeks to evoke a nostalgic, whimsical atmosphere. Upon release, it was well-received by fans of casual play and cube drafting, where its utility as a reliable engine for the Attraction deck made it a staple for those participating in the set's unique gameplay experiences.
