Where it came from
Stingerback Terror, numbered 147p, was released as part of the promotional card offerings for the 2024 Magic: The Gathering set, Outlaws of Thunder Junction. This set leaned into a vibrant, high-fantasy reimagining of the classic Western genre, featuring an ensemble of villains and outlaws across the game’s multiverse. The promo version of this creature reflects the set's signature aesthetic, which emphasizes rugged, desert-inspired environments and a lawless, frontier-inspired atmosphere.
The card’s illustration continues the tradition of creature design that prioritizes a monstrous, insectoid physiology fused with themes of danger and subterranean threat. Designed to function as a powerful threat in gameplay, the card’s visual execution aims to evoke a sense of immediate peril. It was released to players through organized play initiatives and special events, serving as a distinct collectible variant that captures the thematic heart of the Thunder Junction expansion.
