Stoneforge Mystic

Stoneforge Mystic was originally released in the 2010 Worldwake expansion, where it quickly became a foundational card for white-based equipment strategies in Magic: The Gathering. As a creature capable of tutoring for powerful equipment and bypassing casting costs, it proved so efficient that it was famously banned in the Modern format for several years. The 2016 Judge Gift promo version was commissioned as an exclusive reward for members of the Magic Judge Program, a group of certified individuals who facilitate play at sanctioned events worldwide.

The 2016 Judge Gift edition features updated artwork by Magali Villeneuve, an acclaimed fantasy illustrator known for her emotive and detailed character work. Villeneuve’s design emphasizes the blacksmithing aspect of the character, depicting the mystic surrounded by floating blades in a workshop setting. This version was well-received by the player base for its sophisticated aesthetic, which leaned into the high-fantasy artisan theme of the card, effectively elevating it to a status as a prized collectible within the competitive community.
