Where it came from
Storm Herald was released in early 2020 as part of the Theros Beyond Death expansion for Magic: The Gathering. Drawing thematic inspiration from Greek mythology, the set focused on the underworld and the return of heroes. This specific card was distributed as a promotional foil version, often provided through localized store events or as a reward for players engaging with the set's release activities during that period.
The card was illustrated by Johannes Voss, a long-standing contributor to the game known for his evocative, painterly style. Voss sought to capture the chaotic, electric energy of a herald of storms, emphasizing the character's connection to the returning enchantments mechanic central to the Theros setting. The design was well-received by the player base for both its distinct visual flair and its utility in aggressive, graveyard-focused deck archetypes.
