Where it came from
Stormfront Riders was released in 2007 as part of the Planar Chaos set, the second expansion in the Time Spiral block for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. The set was defined by the concept of alternate reality, reimagining familiar card mechanics and color identities through the lens of what might have happened had history unfolded differently in the game's lore.
The card was illustrated by Dave Dorman, a celebrated fantasy and science fiction artist known for his distinct painterly style and extensive work within the Star Wars universe. Dorman focused on a dynamic depiction of a mounted warrior to reflect the creature's ability to bounce friendly permanents back to hand, a mechanical choice that emphasizes the hit-and-run nature of the unit within the game's tactical framework.
