Where it came from
Strict Proctor was released as part of the Strixhaven: School of Mages set in 2021, representing the Silverquill college within the magical university setting of the game. Designed for competitive play, the card was conceptualized to punish players for triggering 'enters-the-battlefield' abilities, a staple mechanic in modern deck construction. Its visual design features the aesthetic of the Orzhov-colored Silverquill mages, emphasizing themes of strict academic enforcement and arcane discipline.
The card was illustrated by Campbell White, who utilized a sharp, high-contrast artistic style to convey the rigid authority of the Proctor. Upon its release, it was well-received by players seeking to disrupt efficiency-focused strategies in both Standard and older formats. The promotional version, distinguished by its unique set symbol and collector number, was distributed through various organized play initiatives, marking it as a distinct entry in the Strixhaven collection.
