Where it came from
Strict Proctor was released as part of the Strixhaven: School of Mages set in 2021, a collection centered on a magical university setting within the Magic: The Gathering multiverse. The card embodies the academic and disciplinary theme of the Strixhaven campus, functioning as a disruptive force in gameplay by penalizing players for triggered abilities. Its design reflects the rigid, rule-bound nature of the institution, specifically focusing on the blue and white color identity that emphasizes control and static ability enforcement.
The artwork for this specific promotional version illustrates the austere aesthetic associated with the school's faculty. While the mechanics were designed to provide a tactical counter-play tool for modern and eternal formats, the promotional variants were distributed through specialized event channels to highlight the visual design of the set. The card was received by the player base as a potent tool for competitive formats, particularly noted for its ability to halt 'Enter the Battlefield' triggers that define many high-level strategic decks.
