Where it came from
Strider Harness was released in 2018 as part of the Rivals of Ixalan expansion for Magic: The Gathering. This set serves as the second half of the Ixalan block, which draws heavy inspiration from Mesoamerican mythology, conquistador-era exploration, and high-fantasy pirate tropes. The card was designed as an uncommon equipment artifact, intended to provide creature support in the Limited format by granting both a power boost and the haste ability to its equipped creature.
The artwork for the card was illustrated by Victor Adame Minguez, a frequent contributor to the game who often leans into dynamic, textured fantasy character design. His depiction of the harness reflects the rugged, utilitarian aesthetic of the Ixalan plane, emphasizing the practical gear used by the various factions navigating the treacherous, dinosaur-filled jungle terrain. Upon release, the card was received as a standard utility piece, functional for aggressive decks but generally viewed as a bridge card for drafting environments.
