Provenance

Where it came from

Strix Serenade was released in 2024 as part of the Modern Horizons 3 expansion for Magic: The Gathering. Designed as a high-power counterspell specifically for the Modern format, the card reflects Wizards of the Coast's ongoing effort to provide interactive tools for blue-aligned decks while adhering to the set's theme of power-level acceleration and nostalgic call-backs to older card mechanics.

The artwork, illustrated by Justine Mara Andersen, features a stylized, elegant strix in a composition that emphasizes the avian creature's magical resonance. The design aims to marry the functional identity of a counterspell with the aesthetic flair common to the set's showcase and borderless treatments, ultimately being received by the player base as a versatile sideboard staple for competitive play.
