Sundering Titan

Sundering Titan was originally printed in the 2003 Darksteel expansion, designed as a formidable mechanical behemoth intended to punish decks relying heavily on non-basic lands. Its mechanic—which forces players to destroy lands of each basic land type when the Titan enters or leaves the battlefield—made it a defining, albeit controversial, card in the history of Magic: The Gathering, eventually leading to its banning in the Commander format for the disruptive nature of its ability.

The version presented here is from The Brothers' War Retro Artifacts set, released in 2022 to commemorate the lore of the Urza and Mishra conflict. Artist Grzegorz Rutkowski provided this specific illustration, opting for a gritty, grand-scale aesthetic that emphasizes the Titan's role as a relic of an ancient, war-torn era. This series was received warmly by players for its nostalgic 'retro' frame, which pays homage to the game's original design language from the mid-nineties.
